Petrof Piano Trio - 7:30 pm, Saturday 18th February 2012
We are pleased to be welcoming to Sevenoaks a relatively new ensemble, but an outstanding one. The Petrof Trio was founded in 2009 by Jan Schulmeister, leader of the Wihan Quartet, one of the most prestigious quartets in an illustrious field. To his 25 years experience as a chamber player he has added two extremely talented young players, pianist and cellist.
They will open their concert with what is probably Haydn's best-known piano trio; its rondo finale in 'Hungarian' style has given rise to the work as a whole being known as the "Gypsy Rondo". This will be followed by the first (and finest) of the three piano trios written by Robert Schumann.
Brahms wrote three piano trios, but the final work in the Petrof's programme isn't one of them! In fact it is the composer's own arrangement of his Horn Trio, in which the natural horn of the original is replaced by a cello.
- Haydn: Trio in G major Hob XV/25
- Schumann: Piano Trio No 1 in D min, Op 63
- Brahms: Piano Trio in E flat, Op 40
