Rosalind Ventris, viola - 3:00 pm, Sunday 22nd January 2012

Rosalind Ventris is a young viola player who been attracting much praise as one of the most promising of the up and coming British instrumentalists. At the age of 17 she was the youngest competitor at the 2006 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Workshop, where she received the Gwynne Edwards memorial prize for the most promising British entrant, Rosalind graduated from Cambridge University in 2009, having won all the University's major performance prizes, and is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Rosalind's performances of chamber music and concertos have embraced such venues as Wigmore Hall and the Barbican, and have garnered much praise - she was described as a "remarkable talent" after playing the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with Tasmin Little.

We are delighted to be welcoming her to Sevenoaks under the auspices of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. The concert will be a wonderful opportunity to hear her in a programme of Romantic music taken from the relatively modest viola repertoire, starting and finishing with two outstanding sonatas.

  • Rebecca Clarke: Sonata
  • Glazunov: Elegy
  • Schumann: Adagio & Allegro
  • Hummel: Fantasie
  • Brahms: Sonata in E flat, Op 120 No 2
