The 2019-20 season brings some more outstanding performers to Sevenoaks, both established artists and impressive newcomers, in an interesting series of programmes. We have two String Quartets, the Esmé, winners of the recent International String Quartet Competition, and the Castalian, another quartet of young players in increasing demand. The popular Gould Piano Trio bring us a refreshing programme of trios by Czech composers, Dvořák and Martinu, and by Beethoven's respected contemporary, Hummel. We have a piano recital by rising star, Ugnius Pauliukonis, who plays music by Haydn, Debussy and Chopin. Violinist Savitri Grier, who played in our Sevenoaks Young Musicians' concert some ten years ago, now a well-regarded recitalist and chamber musician, performs, with pianist Richard Uttley, two sonatas by Beethoven, including the much-liked 'Spring' sonata, between which they play the jazz-influenced second sonata by Ravel. And period instrument performers Florilegium present a programme of music from the court of Frederick the Great, in the then fashionable gallant style.
And we have our regular Sunday afternoon concert in which two chosen contestants in the Sevenoaks Young Musicians Competition share a program that gives an opportunity to hear some up and coming young musical talent.
All concerts take place in the Ship Theatre.
