Ceruleo
  • Aspects of Love – Music by Purcell, Strozzi and others for two violins, gamba, harpsichord and two sopranos.

Ceruleo create dramatic programmes using spoken text alongside music, with every member of the group
performing as a soloist. They use all available combinations of instruments and voices to create innovative and captivating performances. Among the programmes they have put together was one called ’Deplorable Fire’, commemorating the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London. More recently they have been performing one about Henry Purcell called ‘Burying the Dead’, funded by Arts Council England.
Their ‘Aspects of Love’ programme includes musical treats by Monteverdi, Purcell and Barbara Strozzi, which perfectly suit Ceruleo’s forces. The music is interspersed with words by William Shakespeare along with love poetry from the 17th century taken from ‘The Cavalier and his Lady’, a book containing selections of writings by the first Duke and Duchess of Newcastle originally published in 1872.
