Gould Piano Trio
21st September 2019, 19:30
The immensely popular Gould Piano Trio have remained at the forefront of the international chamber music scene for a quarter of a century. Their repertoire embraces established masterpieces as well as lesser-known works, as in this opening concert of the Club's new season. The Gould Piano Trio will play:
- Hummel: Trio in E flat, Op.12
- Martinu: Trio No 1 (Cinq pièces brèves)
- Dvořák: Trio in F minor, Op 65
After one of the delightful piano trios by Hummel, pupil of Mozart and friend of Beethoven, the Gould Trio play the five short pieces which make up Martinu's neo-classical first piano trio. They finish with the third of Dvořák's four piano trios, written when the composer had already become an international celebrity.
"The only comparison that comes to mind is the old Beaux Arts Trio; the combination of jeweller-like precision and a musical fire that ignites from the first bar" (The Washington Post)"
