London Piano Quartet

A welcome return visit from the London Piano Quartet, a group comprised of four distinguished chamber musicians who bring a fresh vitality to the incredible depth of repertoire written for the genre. They will begin with william Alwyn’s Rhapsody for piano quartet, a wonderful opener, written just before the start of WWII. The Dvořák is full of tuneful invention, Slavonic in flavour, and composed quickly, when Dvořák was becoming recognised. Its last movement ingeniously combines features of a scherzo and a finale. Brahms's second piano quartet is a substantial composition, a magnificent piece with which to end the season.

  • William Alwyn Rhapsody;
  • Dvorak Piano Quartet in D, Op.23;
  • Brahms Piano Quartet in A, Op.26
