Wihan String Quartet
21st March 2026, 7:30

The Wihan Quartet is one of the leading string quartets to emerge from the great Czech school of performance in recent years. They have recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
The opening work in their concert is one of Haydn’s most inventive quartets—shifting harmonies, and a minuet based on five-bar phrases. Our Czech performers then turn to their famous compatriot , with the ninth of Dvořák’s twelve string quartets, dedicated to Brahms. Melodious and rhythmic music, characteristic of the composer. The concert will conclude with the third of Beethoven’s ‘middle period’ quartets, a set of three dedicated to his benefactor, Count Rasumovsky.
- Haydn Quartet in G, Op.54 No.1;
- Dvorak Quartet in D minor, Op.34;
- Beethoven Op.59 No.3
